Hotel Room Curation

A.M IDEAS curated room 503 at Taipei Taiwan's award winning Play Design Hotel. We thought of how guests from all over the world could feel comfortable and intrigued with their environment.  We imagined a space where guests were able to connect with natural materials and at the same time we wanted to tell the story of "Made in Taiwan 3.0". Made In Taiwan 3.0, a movement we saw, was a shift in the direction of manufacturing and creativity happening in Taiwan. In the 1990s Taiwan was known as an Asian Tiger, its economy was roaring and the country looked outwardly as it manufactured products to be sold all over the world.  Now that manufacturing has largely shifted overseas, Taiwanese manufacturers and designers...

Workshop

During the Taiwan MiaoLi Weaving Festival, A.M IDEAS held a traditional rush grass weaving workshop to create mini bow tie pins. The event was held at an old train station. Participants learned all the steps involved to weave mini bowties, from preparing the grass to weaving and sewing. Participants were from various backgrounds, ages and skill sets.  At the end of the workshop all students took home bowties they had woven themselves.

Projects in Africa

Financial literacy kit for a remote tribe of farmers in Uganda Client Design without Borders and United Nations World Food ProgramProject background Design without Borders employed A.M IDEAS to improve and refine the Financial Literacy kit they designed for the Karamojongs, a remote tribe in Northern Uganda. The tribe had recently been converted from nomads to farmers and were unfamiliar with the concept of money. In the kit there was a board game to teach them about the benefits of money and saving. Wallets were also included for the beneficiaries so they can put into practice what they learned from the game. Art Pieces

Bamboo of Windsor Bamboo of Windsor, is a shirt collar crafted from bamboo, using traditional and unconventional artisanal techniques. The goal of the piece is to guide viewers to perceive bamboo and its artisanal craft under a new light. The name Windsor is a classic a collar style named after and designed for the Duke of Windsor from England.  The collar, extracted from a dress shirt, imbues within it a sense of formality and professionalism. The fusion of a western collar and stereotypical asian material was created to surprise and delight viewers.
